Book of Dead
Play ‘n Go’s new Book of Dead has been designed for one purpose, and one purpose only. It has been created to take on Novomatic’s Book of Ra slot, which currently rules the roost when it comes to simplistic Ancient Egyptian themed video slots. The similarities between the two are there for all to see.
Both slots contain a rather cheesy hero and explorer – in the case of Book of Dead, his name is Rich Wilde. Both slots’ symbols include surpluses of high playing card icons, and offer a very basic, primitive gaming structure, played over 5 reels and minimalistic paylines. In this case, there are just 10 of them for you to bet on.

Coins Range:0.01 - 2.00
Free Spins/Multiplier Better:Yes
All 10 paylines in this cheap and simple video slot are adjustable, as are the value of your coins, and the number you can wager per line. Coin denominations stem from as little as 0.01 up to as high as 2.00 in total. Up to 5 coins per line can be wagered, too. As you might imagine then, floor bets stem from 0.01 per line, per spin. On the other hand, ceiling bets are fixed at 100.00 per spin.
Book of Dead seems quite proud of its 250,000-coin maximum win limit. However, this non-progressive jackpot can only be won if you are playing on the maximum wager, and land Rich Wild symbols across every spot on the reels. On its own, the highest paying symbol is worth 5,000 coins per payline, and only when 5 appear in a winning combination.
There isn’t exactly a surplus of special features in this Play ‘n Go developed video slot. First up is the wild symbol. This icon is represented by the Book of the Dead. Just like in its rival (Book of Ra), the book is a dual symbol, also acting as a scatter as well as a wild. This symbol can substitute for all other icons in the game without exception.
Scattered wins can be worth 2x, 20x, or 200x your total bet when 3, 4 or 5 such symbols appear anywhere on the reels. A free spins bonus round can also be triggered if you land 3 or more scatter icons. The free spins bonus round consists of 10 simple free spins, with no multiplier added to your winnings in the feature.
It isn’t exactly a bonus round, but a special expanding icon appears at random in the game. It largely appears in the free spins bonus, and when it does, it can expand symbols to cover entire reels. This is how you may be able to land the Rich Wild icon across every spot on the reels, and in so doing land the top paying non-progressive jackpot.
Of course, Book of Dead has been released as a mobile slot machine game, too. If it really wants to take on the mantle of Novomatic’s Book of Ra, how could it not be? The similarities between the two are uncanny, and that continues on the mobile versions of these two slots, as well.
Some will say that Book of Dead is simply a Book of Ra rip-off. Others will say that Play ‘n Go have been very creative in the way that they have designed this slot to take on its primary competitor. Whichever way you look at it, if you did enjoy Novomatic’s Book of Ra slot, then the chances are good that you will also find Play ‘n Go’s Book of Dead slot entertaining, too. After all, it is very much in the same vein.
