NetEnt Slots

netentNetEntertainment is the name of a company that designs software to help casinos provide games of chance and skill over the Internet. The vast majority of online casinos use software packages built by companies like NetEnt rather than develop the games themselves, which is costly and time-consuming.

In Europe, and Scandinavia in particular, the NetEnt slots has become extremely popular and these are the games you will see promoted mostly by the casino sites. Below we are listing the best games where you can click through for a free play version of the slot together with a full review and recommendations on where to play for real money.

As a player, I hold NetEnt in high regard. I like their games about as much as I like BetSoft’s equally-excellent library, though I’m not a drooling fan-boy. As you’ll see below, I have some issues with NetEnt. For now, let’s take a look at the basics of the company.

A Brief History

The name of the company, NetEntertainment, is often shortened to NetEnt. They were founded in Sweden in 1996, an early adopter of the online game design industry. In fact, NetEnt was one of the first Internet-specific casino software providers in the world. They are a legitimate business with stockholders, a legal team, third-party testing, and a lot of solid marketing to back them up. They are traded publicly on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

These days, NetEnt has more than 200 titles in its library, but in the company’s early days its focus was slots. The group has expanded to produce a wide range of casino classics and new-style games, but they remain a force to be reckoned with in slot design. Their foundation in online slot design has led to them being, in my opinion, the best designer of online slots titles in the world.

Let’s take a look at a few of this designer’s most-popular slot games.

Popular NetEnt Slots

Blood Suckers – Though it’s not a licensed title (like the other NetEntertainment titles in this list), this game draws a ton of attention in part because of the vampire-fever that’s still sweeping the world after the success of the Twilight books and movies. Blood Suckers is a pretty simple 25-payline game with 5 reels and a frequent Free Spins feature. This is a good example of a solid NetEnt game without a gimmick to depend on.

South Park: Reel Chaos – The same can’t be said of the company’s licensed South Park online slot. The gimmick here is South Park and its characters. The sound effects, animations, and even some of the gameplay is influenced by the popular adult cartoon. This is another five-reel and twenty-five payline game full of wilds, scatters, expanding symbols, and free spins. Bonus rounds are a real treat – I don’t want to spoil the fun if you’re a fan of the show.

Aliens – Probably my favorite NetEnt slot is Aliens. This game is cinema-quality. It was actually produced with help from 20th Century Fox. That means it is an authentic Ridley Scott-style game experience with a huge top prize and a three-tiered player-interactive bonus game. The videos and sound effects alone are worth a look, even if you’re not a fan of the popular movie series.

Apart from these, NetEnt has released many great slot games such as Starburst (the most popular one), Dead or Alive (the most volatile slot) and The Wish Master slot which is a also a high paying slot with some very unique features.

NetEntertainment Mobile Games

NetEntertainment has a special line of games targeted at mobile displays. Called NetEnt Touch, it is currently only compatible with Android or iOS devices, though versions of games for both smartphone and tablet are available. The biggest downside to using the mobile slots at NetEnt Touch isn’t loss of quality, as you’d expect, but lack of variety. From a total library of 200 games, NetEnt Touch has just over 60. This is a disappointing number, and something that NetEnt could easily fix within the next year. I’d love to see their entire library made mobile, but maybe that’s a pipe dream.

Features

In my opinion, NetEnt’s greatest strength is slots. There are dozens to choose in fun themes and with quality artwork, and they are made to play like the machines in Vegas. The table game selection could be better. The options are sparse and not representative of player interest. For example, they offer Red Dog but not craps. I think the table games could also stand to play a little faster. If you like scratch cards, you’ll be happy to find several to choose from.

Some casinos allow for live dealer games under the Flash section. Not all NetEnt casinos have to allow all possible games, so you may have to shop around to find them, but live dealer is an option with this company.

I also like that low-limit players like myself can find plenty of options for play at NetEnt-powered casinos. Even games besides slots have budget-friendly options. Blackjack games start at just ten cents per bet, and the same goes for video poker and some slot games.

A feature that’s useful for some players – myself included – is the handy “info” button available on every single NetEnt game. By clicking the button (which sometimes takes the form of a question mark), you can read the rules as well as the theoretical payout percentage, on some games. That makes NetEnt somewhat transparent compared to other designers, but also makes learning new games easier, and lets players see their overall odds and chances of winning different payouts.

Overall

One of my favorite casino game designers in the world, NetEnt seems to care more about the end-user experience than other design firms. They make their games attractive, fun, and they produce them in a lot of different varieties to cater to the varying needs of different online gamblers.

I don’t like NetEnt Touch as much as I want to – I want to be a good NetEntertainment fan and love everything they do, but they simply don’t have a large enough mobile library, at least not in my opinion. They could do a better job porting the games for tablet displays, as well, with some games (particularly the newer video slots) nearly unplayable due to size restrictions.
Still, this is one of the best designers in the business. Do yourself a favor, if you’re a fan of internet slots, and test out NetEnt’s line of 3D video slots and other slot-based games. In my opinion, they’re among the best produced in the industry as of right now.
