Part of the popular Book of Ra series, Novomatic’s Pharaoh’s Ring game is relatively new, having appeared in the last year or so. This is a twenty payline five reel slot game with video features and a wide range of coin and bet options. Pharaoh’s Ring has a standout side bet option available on each spin that makes it unique from Novomatic’s massive slot game library.
Novomatic uses its standard playing card symbols, mixing in some ancient Egyptian symbols to supplement the game’s theme. Gameplay is fairly traditional – most players are chasing the free spins and bonus round, since fixed prizes aren’t anything to really write home about on this Novomatic slot title.

Available credit sizes include the following: $0.01, $0.02, $0.05, $0.10, $0.20, $0.50, $1, $2, $2.50, and $5. Since players can wager on between one and twenty paylines, the total betting range is between $0.01 and $100 per spin. That’s a better-than-average available wager range, especially for an online slot. It’s nice when a slot designer keeps budget gamblers in mind, as well as high rollers.
I found unconfirmed reports that all three Book of Ra slots have their theoretical payout percentage set at around 94.5%. That’s fairly low for a land-based slot, but about average for an online game. At that payout rate, a player betting $0.25 per spin would see hourly losses of $8.25 on an outlay of $150/hour. That’s not a bad deal, but it isn’t great, either.
The top fixed prize is 10,000 coins, paid out to players who spin five of the game’s Pharaoh’s Ring symbols on any active pay line. That prize is worth as much as $50,000, and that’s without multipliers or other additional features in play.
The side bet could be considered a type of bonus game – players who place the Extra Bet wager are increasing their chances of winning. That’s because the Extra Bet turns all the game’s Ring symbols into wilds (on the second and fourth reels). The cool thing about this feature is that those wild Ring symbols substitute for ALL symbols, including the bonus game trigger symbol, which is an ancient book.
Spinning three or more Ring symbols launches the game’s only traditional bonus game – the bonus takes the form of a Free Spins feature, awarding as many as ten that can be infinitely re-triggered.
Being a new game (and thanks in no small part to the fact that Novomatic is not big on mobile games just yet), Book of Ra Pharaoh’s Ring is not yet available on any mobile gaming apps or at mobile-friendly websites. This is a huge oversight, because today’s mobile market is huge and expanding all the time. I’m hoping that this next year is the one that Novomatic uses to take charge in the mobile scene, and I hope that they include the Book of Ra series in that expansion. This game would look awesome on iPhone 6 or large Android-powered tablet displays.
Novomatic doesn’t make my favorite games in the universe – in fact, their games often look dated to me, even when they’re brand new like this one. Having said that, I’m always impressed to see a true penny slot on the Internet, and this game offers a pretty high top-end to bettors. The Extra Bet feature that makes bonus game triggering even easier is a nice addition for a company not known to include a lot of side bets and additional features.
